Ami James is a celebrity tattoo artist based in Miami (where he runs Love Hate Tattoo) and New York, NY (the home of Wooster Street Social Club). Love Hate Tattoo was where the popular TLC series MIAMI INK was filmed, and is still an operating and successful shop. Wooster Street Social Club is the set of TLC’s new hit series NY INK, and is now a popular and functioning NYC tattoo shop.
From 2005-2008, Ami starred in MIAMI INK and in the TLC spin off NY INK. MIAMI INK was one of TLC’s most watched shows, and is still highly popular as it continues to air in syndication worldwide while a whole new following begins for NY INK. TLC also saw opportunity on the success of the show with a MIAMI INK Clothing Line and from there the demand was created for his personal line like Deville Clothing, NY INK and Ami James Ink Lines. The show also highlighted his art and ability to create street savvy and functional designs for companies as Motorola and Urban Decay. Hallmark also reach out to him for his creative influence on the youth of today lectures. You can also see Skateboards, Gi’s and even high end Hotel signage now carrying the trade mark of Ami James’ art.
Ami has garnered international acclaim as a tattoo artist and celebrity, largely due to his tremendous talent, charisma, success of MIAMI INK and his ability to relate to his audience. His story is indicative of the working class man, who has found success within his passion and talents. Ami’s edgy and immensely individual style has adapted through years of work and a cultured upbringing. He was born in Israel, and has been in Miami since the age of 12. Ami got his first tattoo at age 13 –and first professional tattoo at 15. In his late teens, he returned to Israel to serve in the Army and do his part for his country. Through his twenties he both apprenticed and labored for his talent, by surrounding himself by artists he could learn from while paying his dues. From those humble beginnings, he now owns and operates two of the world’s most famous tattoo shops. Twenty five years later, he still has a love for ink, and is truly a success story.
Ami also has tremendous passion for cars, choppers, painting, and free-style fighting. Free-style fighting and animals are both private and now public areas of Ami’s interest through both charitable work and awareness, as seen in PETA’s print ad series, featuring the tagline “Ink, Not Mink.” Ami also designed an animal rights tattoo which PETA used as its logo and was also made into a temporary tattoo for children. Ami continues to inspire at such huge events as Rock in Rio 2013 & 2014 where he was invited to attend as the on-site celebrity tattoo artist. Ami finds himself balancing his personal and professional life on a daily basis while running Love Hate Tattoo Social Clubs and Love Hate Lounge in Miami, Wooster Street Social Club in NYC, A newer London location, as well as a brand new Asheville NC shop, and will be opening a Cork City Ireland shop late 2014.
